BUG'S BOWL
We honor one of the most successful terriers to date in JRTCA history - Laurel Gate Ladybug.
Laurel Gate Ladybug (or Bug as her family and friends call her) was born on February 6, 2008 from the breeding program of Starr Bowen and Pat Winslow. Charlie and Jane Henrich acquired Ladybug after the sudden tragic loss of their first Jack, Laurel Gate Clementine in 2011. From that day forward, Ladybug started her eight-year journey to winning the most championships in JRTCA history. With her first trial at the Carolinas Spring Classic that same year and a few weeks later winning her frrst championship at the Terrier Olympics, she never looked back! Ladybug has 535 championship wins all won at sanctioned trials with 304 won in sanctioned events. Laurel Gate Ladybug is currently the JRTCA terrier with the most championships won!
Ladybug also holds the title of having the most Year End High Point Overall wins with 5 consecutive high point titles with the Carolinas Jack Russell Terrier Club! Our club is proud and honored to have Charlie, Jane and Ladybug call this club their home base, but they have traveled all over the US from the east coast to the west coast, to compete at sanctioned trials.
Sadly, Ladybug was diagnosed with SARDS Sudden Acquired Retinal Degeneration Syndrome in 2019 when she lost her eyesight. Charlie and Jane worked hard to help her find a way to continue to do what a Jack is born to do - compete and hunt out those pesky rats! Ladybug was able to still compete in GTG and SE and pulled off her last 2 championships later that same year at the JRTCA Fall Museum Trial which moved her ahead of the great Morgan Hill Dean for the title of most championships wins. Ladybug has earned a total of 19 JRTCA Challenge Awards on top of all the CJRTC Year End High Point awards.
Ladybug has continued to be an energetic dog with the help of her best friend Winslow Farms Killian who watches out for her when she is at home. She is no longer able to compete due to the loss of her hearing which made it impossible to use the sonar devise that helped her navigate but she is still happy to greet people and wags her tail with joy when someone rubs her back.
Charlie and Jane had this wonderful antique measuring bowl refinished and painted by Jane Hughes to be awarded at the Carolinas Spring Classic trial for the dog that had the most points earned over both days. The paintings in and around the bowl truly capture the talents of this amazing little dog and all she has done over her lifetime. As one of the painting shows - she really is the Greatest Of All Time!!
The trophy that Donna is holding is the keeper trophy that she will not need to return. It was painted by Martha Milligan along with the lovely ribbon that Donna can display at home.
Congratulations to Donna Hughes and her senior dog Martin Brodeur on winning this beautiful Bug's Bowl for the very first year!!! Please congratulate Donna on this wonderful accomplishment and be sure to thank Charlie and Jane Henrich for creating a fitting perpetual trophy to honor and remember always this great little white (and tan) dog Laurel Gate Ladybug!!!
